What God Says About You: Nine Powerful Names

How would it change a child’s life if they knew who they really were from a young age? When they feel left out, make a mistake or are called a name that hurts their heart, how can they know their true identity? For almost a decade I have shared a spoken word poem called “I Have a New Name” all over the world that declares nine names that God calls us. It went viral in 2023, and it was mainly from kids memorizing the poem, quoting these names from God, and sharing videos online. Parents were mailing me letters that they were reciting the poem with their kids on the way to school or before bed, and I realized that this message on identity isn’t just for adults, it’s also for kids. I thought to myself, how would it have changed my life… if I knew who I was, earlier? So I wrote a beautifully illustrated children’s book, What God Says About You, with these nine names, direct from scripture. Here are the nine names and Bible verses to go with them for you to read with your kids and have them know that they are loved, wanted and chosen by God. If you’re wondering about who you are or what you’ve been made to do, keep your head high and remind yourself of these truths that God says about you.

God’s Friend

God’s Masterpiece

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” – Ephesians 2:10

Chosen

“For we know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that he has chosen you…” – 1 Thessalonians 1:4

God’s Temple

“You surely know that your body is a temple where the Holy Spirit Lives. The Spirit is in you and is a gift from God.” – 1 Corinthians 6:19

God’s Messenger

“You will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere” – Acts 1:8

Greatly Loved

“But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” – Romans 5:8

Free, Indeed

“So, if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” – John 8:36

Child of God

“For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus.” – Galatians 3:26

Brand New

“Anyone who belongs in Christ is a new person. The past is forgotten, and everything is new.” – 2 Corinthians 5:17
